With love in their hearts Steve and Darlene have created the most serene atmosphere and have assembled a world-class staff of amazing Yoga Instructors. With as much time spent serving our community as running the best “tiered” Yoga classes, they are pillars in the community and stewards to their fellow-man, we our proud to serve this community with them.
We strongly believe that it will take an entire community to solve the health problems facing our children, our communities, and our neighbors. It will take a collaborative effort between .Orgs, .Coms, and .Govs to address the health challenges of today. HFSF is blazing a trail with programs and grants targeted at increasing the quality of health here in our community and for that we are most grateful. Here’s what they care about:
HFSF’s mission is to improve the health status of people in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. This straightforward statement reflects our results-oriented approach to grant-making. By funding providers and supporting programs to promote health and prevent disease, we make measurable and sustainable differences in the health and well-being of individuals and families. We remain true to our mission by pursuing the following goals:
- To increase the accessibility of quality, sustainable, community-based primary health services, including oral health, for all with a focus on the underserved
- To promote healthy eating active communities and preventive health measures (testing/screening and referral)
- To improve organizational effectiveness and efficiency among grantees and selected health and social service providers
- To improve the effective delivery and efficiency of the health system for the poor and uninsured The bar is set high for these goals. And with every touch and each success, another South Floridian reaches their potential to lead a full and healthy life.
Another great organization we are pleased to call our friends, thank you HSFS for the great work you do.
All I can say is we L.O.V.E this organization. When you talk about those great little organizations making a huge impact, this one touches the heart. Erin Healy and Team do the really hard work of making significant changes in the lives of underserved children in depressed areas of Miami…all with very little resources, yet day in and day out…there they are teaching kids a different way to connect with the food they eat. If you want to contribute to truly good causes, this one is it!
Check out what your financial assistance affords the kids:
Afterschool Program: The "Activist Academy" is a 4-month training that includes field trips, food preparation classes, community outreach, guest speakers, and hands-on activities. Youth meet once per week afterschool in Liberty City, Opa Locka, or Overtown to learn how to increase access to healthy foods and green spaces in their environments while adopting healthy and eco-friendly habits. The Program runs from September through December of each year. Click here to sign up!
Paid Apprenticeships for Teens: Selected youth who successfully complete the Activist Academy are promoted to paid apprenticeship positions at farmers' markets and community gardens from January through May. Positions may also include community outreach to promote these healthy food outlets.
Community Outreach & Research: Trained youth outreach workers conduct surveys among community residents to gather their feedback concerning food, health, and the food outlets in their neighborhoods. This feedback helps inform Youth L.E.A.D. and partners of community needs and desires.
Food Demonstrations: Youth L.E.A.D. staff and volunteers can conduct 2-hour food preparation workshops at your site. Our recipes are 100% vegetarian and highlight locally-grown, seasonal fruits and vegetables. Look out for our upcoming recipe booklet!
